A CROWD of church volunteers gathered in Cirencester over the weekend of September 27 to do charity work for the community.

The group worked in the Abbey Grounds, Riverside Walk, Chesterton Farm, with Cirencester Opportunity Group and several more groups.

Cirencester Baptists’ Senior Pastor Matt Frost said: “There were about 100 people from all the churches in town. We worked on about eight projects around the town given to us by local community groups and the town council.”

The teams helped out with cutting back overgrown plants, painting and decorating and planted a colossal 1,300 bulbs in the Abbey Grounds.

Matt added: “Hopefully in the spring that'll be something worth looking at!”

A few curious residents questioned the volunteers, with some believing they were part of a Community Payback scheme until they got close enough to read their vests.

He praised Kim Hartshorne for organising the event, which was met with good feedback from all involved and thanks from the town council and thanked the volunteers for all their hard work.

“I think there’s a good chance this could happen again next year” said Matt.
