ALL OVER the country shoppers have been battling to grab the best bargains, as Black Friday comes to the UK.

This year many shops in the country have taken on the popular American trend, Black Friday, where prices are slashed on usually-expensive items, such as TVs, computers and clothes, for one day.

Police were called to supermarkets elsewhere in the country as crowds hunted for special offers. Greater Manchester Police had to attend seven Tesco stores, at which three men were arrested and a woman was hit by a falling television.

But were people in the Cotswolds and North Wiltshire impressed with Black Friday?

Maria Simmonds said she thought it was disgusting the way people were behaving today.

"It's supposed to be the season of goodwill, not the season of shoving others to the ground so you can get to the tv's first," she said. "Retailers should be ashamed of themselves. Christmas spirit has certainly died a death."

Other residents took to social media to complain that they were stuck in lengthy online queues while trying to access the popular shopping websites such as Tesco and Curry's.

But Karen Arthurs who works in the customer service department at Tesco Extra in Cirencester said there were no incidents where the police needed to be called.

"It was all quite chilled actually," she said. "We've had a very good day. It's been busy all day."
