POLICE are still searching for the family of the man who was killed outside Cirencester in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man has still not been named as an official inquest cannot take place until family members are located.

Police are working with his former employer and the Polish embassy to find his next of kin.

The 38-year-old man is from Poland which has made tracking relatives down more difficult.

The man was walking along the A429 Stow Road, near Cirencester, at 4.50am on Sunday when he was struck by a white Ford Transit van.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Wiggold Farm to find the man seriously injured and unconscious.

Paramedics from Cirencester Hospital performed CPR at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead soon after.

The man has been identified as a 38-year-old from Poland who had only moved to Poulton two weeks ago.

Police have confirmed that it was a man driving the van, but are yet to release any further information.

County councillor for Northleach Paul Hodgkinson chairs the campaign group North Cotswolds Rural Area Against Speeding Harm (No Crash).

“Obviously, another death is extremely sad for all concerned and we have too many incidents like this in the Cotswolds,” he said.

“Single carriageway A roads are the most dangerous in the country, more dangerous than dual carriageways or motorways.”

A 22-year-old woman named Mel Normal was killed on the same road near Northleach on February 6.

More recently, on April 6, a motorcyclist was killed on the nearby A40 Sherborne after colliding with a car, leading to calls to make the road safer.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101.
