IT is saddening for all that St Saviour’s Church in Tetbury was vandalised last month.

For a lot of people in the town, the church is more than just a tourist attraction or a landmark, it is a place of personal significance.

For some, it is a place where their loved ones are buried, for some, it is a place where they find comfort in their thoughts, for others, it is a place full of childhood memories and religious significance.

A few members of the community have been quite defensive about the effect the incident would have on the name of the town, but what is more important perhaps is the effect it has had on residents, uniting them together in efforts to protect and conserve an important part of the town.

On another note, despite speculation into who might have been responsible for the mindless damage to the church, it would be unfair to be blame the incident on a certain group of people without any evidence.

Rumours abound but obviously in the UK, people remain innocent until proven guilty.

It would be nice to see the person or group responsible step forward to own up to what they have done and help to pay for, or at least clear up the mess they caused and join the rebuilding process.

To rip pages out of the Bible and cause the extent of damage this group did, just shows how little consideration they have for others in the town.
