PRIOR Park Prep School in Cricklade ran their own Race for Life around the school field.

Pupils in years three to eight, the majority of who said that they knew of someone who had suffered from cancer, took part in the run on Monday, May 23.

Supported by family, friends and staff, children in years three to four ran 1 mile, years five to six ran 1.5 miles and years seven to eight ran 2 miles.

The school raised £1,353 for Cancer Research, almost doubling their initial target of £750.

Donations can still be made online here until Friday, June 10.

Miss Emily Bird, PE teacher and organiser of the school’s Race for Life, commented: “The children had a brilliant time competing in the sunshine! We have been overwhlemed with the generosity and support of family and friends.”

As part of the school’s wider charity initiative, Prior Park Prep runs a charity committee called HOPIN, Helping Other People In Need.

Fundraising activities, such as sponsored challenges, fairs and sales, are organised to support a selection of charities that have been chosen by the children.

Supported charities include: Prospect Hospice, BALA children's centre in Kenya, Save the Children, Smile Train, Helen & Douglas House and Stellenbosch DR Mother Church Bursary Fund.
