A COLLISION this morning (May 27) has seen a section of the M5 southbound  blocked and caused lengthy delays.

The crash, involving a lorry and a small white Suzuki car, occurred at about 8.30am and while there were no injuries it has meant the road between junction 11 and 11A is blocked, causing significant delays.

Police and ambulance staff were quickly on the scene and two lanes were closed off to allow recovery work to be carried out, forcing all traffic to move into one lane to squeeze past the incident.

This caused major tailbacks in the morning commute with traffic backed-up to at least junction 10.

An eyewitness said: "The incident must have occurred just before I reached that point as we very suddenly ground to a halt.

"We didn't move at all for some time and then it was a snails pace up to junction 11a as all traffic had to move into the fast lane to get past.

"A small white car had very bad damage to its front and there was a lorry parked slightly further along the hard shoulder.

"There were about five emergency service vehicles there and someone sweeping sand onto the road so I guess there was some fuel which spilled out onto the road."
