THE Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool has turned its attention to the second phase of its redevelopment following the success of a ‘Splash Day’ which has seen fundraising surpass £86,000.

‘Splash Day’ was attended by more than 500 adults and children making it the busiest event the pool has ever hosted.

The event included activities such as Woggle Wars and the Crazy Float Run.

Further money has been raised in recent weeks with a Summer Acoustic Evening Fundraiser held at the Parish Church raising £200 and a 24-hour swim, organised by the lifeguards in their own time, will also take place on the September 2 and 3.

Mike Cutts, chairman of Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool, said: “Additional money raised as part of fundraising efforts put us in a strong position to start thinking about phase two of the re-development of the pool.

"The effort of volunteers and friends to the pool has been superb over recent months and it is their efforts that has helped us reach this point in the fundraising.

"We’ve enjoyed quite a few hot days over the past month which has only helped us continue the success of the initial development.

"The 24-hour swim is just another step towards phase 2 which we hope to begin in the winter months.”

Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool has already invested £750,000 into a new building including new changing rooms, upgrades to technology and equipment, office and admin facilities and the refurbishment of the well which houses the source of the pool’s water.

The primary focus of the second phase of investment will be improved disabled access, pool covers and the installation of solar panels both of which are expected to save significant money in heating costs over the long term.
