Fire services saved businesses on Bourton High Street from flooding on Sunday evening.

Heavy downpours throughout the weekend left four businesses on the High Street at risk of flooding.

Police had to ask for help from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service to redirect the water.

One business at risk was the post office.

Postmistress Melissa Samuel said: “We got flooded last night. Luckily the police kindly agreed to close the road to traffic so we could clear the water.

“The Police also called the fire brigade to assist us.

“The post office definitely took the brunt of the rain and wind.

“There is always a problem with the drains and so they cannot cope with heavy rainfall.

“Luckily we avoided any damage.”

A spokesman of the fire service added: “We were called to Bourton at 6.03pm last night at the request of the police to help prevent flooding at commercial premises.

“One fire engine from Stow attended.

“Our crew was able to redirect water away from local businesses to prevent flooding and left at 6.36pm.”
