POLICE are warning residents to be on the lookout for bogus workers.

Gloucestershire Police have received a report of fake workmen knocking on doors claiming to be from Thames Water in Northleach.

The incident happened at multiple properties in London Road on Wednesday (November 16) at around 11am.

Thames Water have said they have no planned works in the area and say all their employees will have identification on them and will produce it if asked.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “Our engineers wear clear identification badges but our message is simple - if you're unsure, don't open your door.

“Our customers’ safety is our top priority and registering for our doorstep password scheme means they can set up a personal password that will be given by any Thames Water employee that visits their property.

“It’s also important to note we’d never ask for any sort of cash payment from a customer before carrying out work, so we ask customers to let us know about any suspicious callers.”

There have been no other reports in the Cotswold area.

To register for the doorstep password scheme, call Thames Water on 0800 316 9800.

If a customer’s hearing or speech is impaired, they can contact Thames Water using Relay UK.
