MALMESBURY motor racing star Louis Harvey managed a second consecutive runners-up spot in round two of the MSVT Trackday Championship.

Harvey is in his first season in Saloon Car racing and, alongside driving partner Jack Kemp, the pair secured second-place in round one in what was Harvey's first ever race at this new and improved level.

They carried that success into round two in Anglesey, making the podium again to maintain their strong start.

Harvey and Kemp arrived at Anglesey on Friday for practice, in which Harvey drove in the two afternoon sessions.

By the end of his first, he wasn’t far off race speed and he eventually finished practice two only 1 tenth of a second off the team's qualifying time from last year.

For this race, the team decided to swap the drivers order with Harvey taking the first session in both qualifying and race for this round. This gave Harvey the chance to demonstrate his race starts and to be the first on the new tyres.

Into qualifying and Harvey set an early flying lap for the team putting them in a provisional second place.

Teammate Kemp was unable to improve on this time in the second half due to traffic and the tyres getting hotter. They qualified 2nd in Class C with a starting grid position of 10th overall.

Despite some expected nerves for his first standing start in cars, Harvey accelerated off the line well, instantly making up a few places and was quickly behind the leading class C car.

Unfortunately for Harvey on lap 3, some problems with the brakes forced him onto the grass and as a result, he lost valuable places. Undeterred, he put in an outstanding drive and not only got the car back into second in class but had pulled out a substantial gap to third place.

A quick pitstop and driver change put Kemp in the driving seat for the second half of the race. Kemp drove well, maintaining their second-place position.

An accident brought out the safety car and bunched the pack back together and provided a one-lap shoot out, in which Kemp held position to finish second in Class C for the second race in a row.
