TWO football clubs are coming together to host a charity match in honour of their former goalkeeper who died last year.

Cirencester Town Ladies will face Swindon Town Women FC in a very special one-off match to celebrate the life of ex player Carla Heaton.

It was announced on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, that the 22-year-old had suddenly died.

Carla was a bright character, well known for her imaginative hair and love of colour which was highlighted at her funeral last December.

Many in attendance wore bright colours or football shirts and added colourful streaks to their own hair.

Following her death Cirencester Town Ladies paid a touching tribute to Carla.

It read: "It is with great sadness to say our goalkeeper Carla Heaton has suddenly passed away.

"We are all lost for words but what we can say is how much of a beautiful person you were inside and out."

Before joining Cirencester, Carla played for Swindon Town Women FC, who also paid a warm tribute.

The club said: “Carla was a shining light in the dressing room with her personality and her performances between the sticks were second to none.

“She will be greatly missed by our players who were honoured to have known her and shared the pitch with her.”

Spectators attending the special charity match this summer have also been encouraged to don bright colours.

A tweet from Cirencester Town Ladies said: “Swindon Town Women FC & Cirencester Town Ladies will come together on Sunday, July 16, to remember former goalkeeper Carla Heaton.

“Teammates of Carla’s across both clubs will take to the pitch at the Corinium Stadium to honour Carla whilst raising money for Make A Wish UK.”

The game will kick off at 2pm at the Corinium Stadium on Sunday, July 16, and entry will be £2 on the gate with all proceeds from the day going to charity.
