A POPULAR family-run vineyard near Cirencester has scooped up a prestigious award.

Poulton Hill Estate's Bulari (a variation of the Latin for bubbles) was awarded a silver medal at the international Glass of Bubbly Awards 2023 in the Gastronomic category, beating wines from across Europe, the US and Australasia.

Christopher Walkey, founder of Glass of Bubbly, said the sparkling wine tasted like "green apples, apple compote, foliage and yellow floral on the nose and dry though silky style edging to an oily green fruit texture."

The estate - which is situated in Poulton village, a ten minute drive from Cirencester - was founded in 2010 and more than 9,000 vines have been planted on its south-facing slopes.

This business is run by two women who undertake all the work on the vineyard and in the office.

Natalie Barker, of Poulton Hill Estate, said: "We are a multi-award winning vineyard, producing both still and sparkling wine and spirits, and have a cellar door here at the vineyard.

"We are a two woman team, undertaking all the work both in the vineyard (bud rubbing, leaf stripping, tucking in, topping, hand harvesting – all tasks throughout the season) and in the office (the running of Tour & Tastings, external events, delivering in our branded van etc).

"We are thrilled to announce that Poulton Hill Bulari has won a silver medal in the prestigious international Glass of Bubbly Awards 2023."
