ONE of the largest model villages and house Christmas light displays in the area lit up a cul-de-sac near Cirencester last week.

Robin and Pauline Sollis first started this spectacular display when they first moved into their home in Vale Road, Stratton 24 years ago.

The Sollis' were inspired to kickstart this festive collection when they noticed that their elderly neighbour had draped some lights onto a tree outside his house.

They unveiled this year's festive extravaganza, which now attains a large outdoor display and an indoor Christmas model village which encompasses more than 2,000 pieces, on Saturday, December 9.

Residents and visitors are welcome to explore this winter wonderland at GL7 2JJ between 4.30pm and 8pm everyday until the end of the month.

The couple buy new decorations to add to their expanding collection every year.

Robin has spent the last six weeks setting up the display in preparation for the opening and it took four months to first set up the model village in 2012.

Robin and Pauline said: "We love watching people enjoy the lights and the indoor model village.

"Our favourite piece in the whole display is the nativity scene which we bought in Skegness as it shows the real meaning of Christmas.

"We always buy something new to add to the collection every year.

"We normally get something in the post Christmas sales from garden centres such as Dobbies.

"Every year we collect donations for various charities and organisations that are related to our family such as Macmillan Cancer Support, The Salvation Army and Goals Beyond Grass charity in Churchdown."
