SHREK The Musical brings a touch of childish joy to audiences everywhere.

The musical is playing at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham from March 12-17 and it didn’t disappoint.

From the amazing green make-up of Shrek played brilliantly by Antony Lawrence to the hilarious Ginger Bread Man puppet, the styling, costumes and sheer dance ability of the cast was incredible.

The audience fell in love with the big green Ogre and wished him to get romantic with the delightful Princess Fiona played by Joanna Clifton who clearly relished her dancing duties. Joanne also had an angelic voice as did the rest of the cast.

Shrek and Princess Fiona had much fun with flatulence and burps during their performance.

With colourful, creative costumes and a high energy level the players brought the audience along with them in this superb show.

There is much to giggle at in this dramatic romp with its .fairytale characters including the Sugar Plum Fairy, Peter Pan, Pinocchio and of course the hilarious Donkey played by Brandon Lee Sears who made the most of his physicality throughout the show.

James Gillan was superb as the camp Lord Farqaad relishing in his boos from the audience – every fairy tale needs a baddy.

This is the perfect show for families combining a wonderful story with fairytales in a remarkable land which was made all the better by the brilliant set design by Philip Witcombe.

By combining visual projected set design and clever blocking by the actors the audience was transported from a slimy green swamp to a dragon guarded tower to the kingdom of Dulac.

Rising star Cherece Richards had a spectacular voice as the Dragon and her performance really stole the show.

With plenty of toe tapping musical numbers and choreographed dance numbers this is a musical smash which parents and children alike will appreciate.

Shrek the Musical is playing at The Everyman Theatre from Tuesday 12th March to Sunday 17th March, 2024.
