A 60-vehicle boy racer meet at a Cirencester industrial estate which residents say 'sounded like a Grand Prix' has led to an urgent call for information.
A large group of drivers in souped-up cars caused disruption by revving engines and doing wheel spins around the Love Lane Industrial Estate in Cirencester last Sunday evening, March 17.
Police were eventually called around 9.45pm and officers attended after receiving reports that between 50 and 60 vehicles were present.
Love Lane has become a hotspot for this kind of activity which disturbs residents in the early hours of the morning.
There have previously been reports of drivers performing dangerous stunts such as burnouts - the practice of keeping a vehicle stationary and spinning its wheels causing tyres to heat up and smoke - in the area.
This often results in roads being damaged and tyre debris left behind.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and warning signs have been put up around the estate to help identify and prosecute individuals.
Speaking this week, Inspector Simon Ellson of Cirencester police said: "We are aware that some residents have been affected by anti-social driving and noise as a result of the car meets in the Love Lane area.
“Officers have previously run operations to try and curb any anti-social behaviour and we are continuing to work with our colleagues in Wiltshire to combat this issue in both force areas to protect other road users and pedestrians.
“I would urge anyone with any information regarding car meets to contact police and report any incidents to us by calling 101.
"You can also report non-emergency anti-social behaviour to us online via the Gloucestershire police website.
“If you see someone driving dangerously call police on 999 if they are still present.”
Meanwhile, motorists in 4x4s were recently spotted driving across the grass on the roundabout near Deer Park School.
Angry residents have taken to social media to express their frustration.
Commenting on a Cirencester Facebook group, one resident said: "It sounded like the Grand Prix was taking place near the Tesco roundabout."
Another said: "I see the idiots have been racing on the roundabout again ripping it up by Deer Park School again in their 4x4s."
