AT the Winter Swimming World Cup held in Tallinn, Estonia at the beginning of March, Max Rose from Lechlade not only won a gold medal, but also helped to set a new world record.
Max, who was swimming to raise money for Cruse Bereavement Support, finished first in the Adduco Head Up 25m Breaststroke event.
She said: “I actually won a gold medal today and became an international ICE swimming gold medallist – on International Women’s Day of all days!”
Max - pictured below - took part in the successful world record attempt later that same day and was one of 807 people from different parts of the world plunging into icy water one after another and then swim 25 metres each.
The previous world record was set in 2020 when 505 swimmers took part.
To take part in this challenge required a huge amount of training and money to cover travel costs, accommodation, kit and insurance, so Max has been trying to raise at least £3,500.
The money is to be divided 50/50 between sponsoring Max’s costs and donating to Cruse Bereavement.
To date, she has raised £1,736.
