POLICE officers have been clamping down on motorists speeding through a village near Malmesbury.

Malmesbury Police officers were conducting speed checks on The Hill road in Little Somerford on Thursday, April 11 and caught nine drivers speeding.

The speed limit on the road is 30mph and one motorist was caught driving at 41mph. 

The nine motorists, depending on their driving history, will be offered a speed awareness course, face a £100 fine or get three points added to their licence. 

A spokesperson for Malmesbury Police said: "Our speed enforcement team were out in Little Somerford on Thursday. 

"Nine drivers have been issued with notices of intended prosecution for excessive speeding.

"Proceeding will be undertaken to ensure the most appropriate outcome for the offenders takes place, which includes MOT, insurance and point totter checks.

"Captured footage will also be analysed for other offences like seat belts and mobile phone use.

"On positive note, Lea was also checked on the same date and we are pleased to report that there were no speeders."
