AN AMBITIOUS curriculum and 'respectful and aspirational culture' at a secondary school in our area were praised in a recent Ofsted report.

Malmesbury School received a glowing report after a visit from an Ofsted inspector on Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13.

It was awarded outstanding ratings in every single category assessed.

The inspector said that the school has set high expectations for students' behaviour which has created a safe environment for pupils to thrive in.

The report states: "Malmesbury School believes that ‘Happy + Caring = Excellent’ and this underpins how the school supports pupils to achieve exceptionally well.

"Pupils and adults have warm relationships which reflect the respectful and aspirational culture.

"Anti-bullying ambassadors help other pupils to understand the importance of tolerance.

"As a result, pupils feel safe in school and attend well."

The report also commends the school's 'highly ambitious curriculum', excellence programme and broad range of extra curricular activities.

Furthermore, the inspector was impressed with the comprehensive career programme which helps prepare older pupils for adult life.

The report states: "The school engages with local employers to provide meaningful experiences of the world of work.

"Sixth-form students are exceptionally well supported to consider their future options.

"A personalised mentoring programme supports applications for employment, apprenticeships and higher education."

In addition, the arrangements for safeguarding were rated as effective.

The inspector felt that the school's success stemmed from the staff, trust and governors' shared vision of excellence.

The report concluded: "Leaders at all levels share the trust’s vision for an outstanding education.

"The needs of children are at the heart of this school."

Headteacher Brett Jouny said: "We are never satisfied and know that there is always more we can do to develop our school and continue to produce the happy, caring and excellent adults of tomorrow.

"But we also want to take the time to be delighted that external experts agree with our assessment of our school.

"My favourite quote of all was the final line of the report where inspectors articulate what our values of happy, caring and excellent means, 'The needs of children are at the heart of this school', both academically and socially."
