THE role of Cotswold District Council (CDC) is to represent the interests of all who live or work in Cirencester.
The livelihood of more than 270 independent retailers depend on there being a stream of shoppers to their doors.
The disastrous lack of accessible parking has seen an 18 per cent drop in their trade this last year.
St James’s Wealth Management is a major employer with more than 400 staff, the majority requiring parking facilities.
That explains the effusiveness shown by CDC, anxious to accommodate their needs.
It is time that our questionably competent council demonstrate their concern for, and understanding of, the dilemma faced by our much-loved local shops, the character on which the town centre is based.
Stop procrastinating CDC and sort this parking nightmare now.
