WITH the exception of the inevitable smattering of negative comments on the web, it has been exciting and heartening to receive such an enormous amount of support for the proposed railway link between Cirencester and Kemble.

Cirencester has a proven record of seeing a need and meeting it with innovative and sustainable solutions.

When the Winstone Trust, a true force for good in the town, held a conference for local groups, there were found to be more than one hundred charities and community organisations within the local area all working to improve people’s lives.

Examples such as Cirencester Housing for Young People (Chyp), the Churn Project and the Opportunity Group demonstrate just what can be achieved.

Reinstatement of the railway between Cirencester and Kemble is not a nod to nostalgia but a forward-looking plan to help meet the transport needs of the future population.

It is also totally inclusive, cross-party and environmentally sound.

We are lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to be in the forefront of this technology and we need to embrace it as there are many other towns and cities waking up to the benefits of light railway; if we hesitate the fight for funding will become increasingly difficult.
