I HAVE seen many letters over the last few months which have a theme of dissatisfaction with decisions taken or lack of action by Cotswold District Council (CDC).

These letters have covered car parking, the proposed link with West Oxford District Council and of course the proposed development at Chesterton.

Mention has been made of the cabinet structure and bias in its members.

I thought I would draw readers attention to recent developments in West Dorset where on May 5 there was a referendum held by the local District Council to consider a change from cabinet governance to a committee.

The vote was in favour and the structure of the council will change from May 2017.

This change means that the new strategy committee will comprise members drawn from all political parties in accordance with the proportion elected, rather than a committee comprising members from one party.

The referendum had to be called as a petition was presented to the council containing the required number of signatures, for CDC this would be around 3500, I can’t give the exact figure because their website is not up to date.

In summary, if the electorate want a change then they could follow the example set by West Dorset or indeed Fylde and Canterbury and ask CDC to hold a referendum.

Or have we had enough referendum talk for 2016?
