EVERY time I want to curse the banks, and who hasn’t felt like that over the past few years, I stop and think of the wonderful service we receive from our Fairford branch of Lloyds.

They exemplify everything that is best about banking and are excellent ambassadors for their organisation.

It was therefore an unpleasant shock to learn last week that the Fairford branch will be closing.

This is the last branch in the town and its closure is all the more perplexing in view of the huge number of new houses being built in Fairford.

I suppose we ought to have seen it coming; the opening times have been gradually reduced over recent years making it more inconvenient to visit the branch and causing queues.

We are told that, in future, we ought to go to Cirencester with its well-documented parking problems, which are unlikely to improve with future housing projects.

The article on the Standard website mentioned “only 30 personal and business customers [use] the Fairford Bank per week” and I find this very confusing.

Lloyds Fairford is a busy branch and an explanation of the methodology used to arrive at this figure would be interesting.
