LOUIS HARVEY, the up-and-coming karting prospect from Malmesbury, gained his landmark first win in the latest championship round at the Llandow track in South Glamorgan.

Ten-year-old Louis had been denied a first win at the Rissington Kart Club recently on the last corner when hit by a rival who was subsequently excluded for his actions.

At Llandow, there were again plenty of hiccups for the Malmesbury School pupil but it all finished on a glorious high.

Friday's practice went well but a rear bumper on his Honda Cadet (four-stroke) was ripped off by a fellow driver in Saturday's practice and a frayed throttle cable had to be replaced in the evening, while the tracking was also reset with the assistance of Delta Karting and a new set of slick tyres sourced by Silver Fox Karting.

Sunday's Heat One was a non-event and Heat Two was red-flagged when driver Jenson Fennymore was dramatically ejected from his kart, although he escaped unhurt.

In the rerun, Louis got stuck behind the two Ferguson brothers and they proved impossible to pass.

In Heat Three, Louis came from the back to finish second Honda and earn fifth place overall on the grid for the final.

Driving stylishly, Louis pulled a good distance away from the second and third-placed Hondas so picked up his maiden first place trophy.

Louis said: "I could not have done it without my sponsors and suppliers so thanks to Chris Brazil of Ideal Displays, Dominic Hayhoe of Forces Reunited, Power Maxed, and not forgetting Mark Williams of Seven Electrical."

Louis is currently sixth on his first try at the Llandow Championships but is in a close third place at Rissington with one round of the series remaining.
