CIRENCESTER head pro Ed Goodwin won the latest Gloucestershire & Somerset PGA Medal at The Kendleshire with a one under par round of 70.

Goodwin was joined at the top of the leaderboard by David Haines who became head pro at Burnham and Berrow earlier this year.

Thirty-five players took on the challenge at the Bristol venue. Luckily, ‘Gonzalo’ had moved on and a much calmer day greeted the contestants for the fourth G&S Medal of the season.

Goodwin has been in steady if unspectacular form so far this season and his sub-par score was made up by an eagle at the 8th and birdies at the 9th and 13th but was offset by three bogeys.

His win saw him move up to third spot in the Total Triumph Order of Merit as he mounts his annual challenge for the title.

Nick Ellis of Naunton Downs Golf Club, maintained his recent form with a share of fourth spot thanks to his 72.

Giuseppe Licata had a rare off day, which cost him the Order of Merit lead. Andrew March is the new table topper by just half a point.
