CIRENCESTER TOWN would be one of the title-chasing clubs to benefit if beleaguered Hereford United’s results are, as expected, expunged from the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League table.

The Bulls, founded in 1924, were wound up on Friday after a court heard that they had no means of paying off their debts.

Hereford are believed to owe approximately £1m, including £116,000 to HM Revenue and Customs, who brought the petition.

The club was expelled from the Football Conference in June after failing to pay creditors.

Of the top six Southern Premier clubs, only fourth-placed Cirencester Town and Weymouth, in sixth, have yet to play Hereford United this season.

The other top six clubs: Redditch (three points), Poole (one), Corby (three) and St Neots (six) all face having their current tallies reduced – which would move Cirencester up to second place, a point behind Poole.

Hereford’s game with Hitchin Town on Saturday was postponed and the committee of the Southern League are expected to announce the Bulls’ expulsion from the competition shortly.
