Purton 2 Clanfield 0

DESPITE a below-par first- half performance against Clanfield on Saturday, two second-half goals secured another three ppints for the 'Reds', writes Alan Eastwood.

Manager Justin Miller had to make several changes for the game as Blaine Fitzgerald, Steve May, Calum Courtney, James Griffin and Ben Carter were unavailable.

Visitors Clanfield had the better of the first half forcing Purton keeper Johnny Cowley into two good saves and going close on three other occasions.

Purton, meanwhile, had two efforts blocked on the line and Ritchie Saunders and Dave Toomey both went close with a header and a 20-yard volley respectively.

After a half time 'roasting' by the management team, Purton stepped up their game in the second half and after 48 minutes a great pass found Lee Toomey who crashed the ball home.

Minutes later only a good save by the opposing keeper kept out a Sam English effort. Shannon Pocock went close for Clanfield on the hour mark but the visitors conceded a second goal after 68 minutes when Dave and Lee Toomey combined to set up Marcus Hall, who scored with a great header.

Joe Dorey had a chance to make it three after 85 minutes but blasted his effort wide.
