STRONG winds and torrential rain forced the cancellation of the second day of competition at this year's Land Rover Spring Gatcombe Park horse trials.

The popular local event for novice and intermediate horses had attracted an entry in excess of 600 horse and rider combinations from 13 countries.

England’s most successful rider William Fox-Pitt was present with seven horses.

Riders, officials and spectators braved the elements on Saturday in order to complete six of the 13 competitions but it was clear by the end of the day that it would be impossible to continue on sunday.

Of the six sections completed two were won by William Fox-Pitt, one by Italian Vittoria Panizzon and the remaining three by Kyle Roddy, David Doel and Izzy Taylor.
