Alexcars Cirencester Senior Charities Cup Final

Oaksey 3 South Cerney 1

OAKSEY FC is nearly 70 years old and for the first time ever won a trophy for Cirencester League Division One sides – the Alexcars Senior Charities Cup – with a 3-1 win over newly-crowned league champions South Cerney.

Oaksey were one up within a 90 seconds at Cirencester Town's Corinium Stadium as skipper Jake Pegler lobbed keeper Steve Pawlowski from some 15 yards out.

Oaksey grimly held their narrow lead for another hour until Pegler took advantage of hesitation in the Cerney defence to steal the ball and make it 2-0 from close range.

Prior to the second goal key Oaksey players Rob Collier, Danny Pike and Jake Pinnell all had to come off injured.

Then Phil Hall calmed Oaksey nerves with a typical solo goal to make it 3-0.

While Cerney pulled one back before the end it was Oaksey who were able to claim that elusive victory and cap an encouraging season with a perfect finish.

Manager Paul Burrows, in his first year in the job, will be pleased that ambitions were fulfilled.
