Malmesbury Vics 2 Corsham Town 2

A BUSY schedule finally caught up with league champions Malmesbury Vics and they put in a laboured display to earn a 2-2 home draw with Corsham Town.

The Vics snatched the lead in the eighth minute, when Ed Wilkins dispossessed former Malmesbury stalwart Aaron Gilbert and raced clear to score easily.

Further chances were spurned by the normally dependable home attack, before Corsham squared the match with their first real chance, in the 24th minute.

A long ball into the home side's area should have been easily cleared, but Josh Bright ran in unchallenged to knock the ball home.

The Vics continued to create and miss chances up to the break with the game remaining all square.

Malmesbury made changes during the interval and before they had time to settle found themselves behind. A good run and finish by Corsham's speedy Kieron Gleed in the 50th minute put The Vics in danger of losing their long unbeaten run.

Ant Brown brought out the best in the visiting keeper with a 30-yard free kick, and then drove another just the wrong side of the post.

With four minutes remaining Malmesbury managed to get the equaliser from a Wilkins penalty, after a left-footed drive by Krystian Hext was deemed to have been handled in the area.

The Vics now host Westbury in their final game of the season at The Flying Monk Ground on Tuesday night when they will be presented with the league trophy. Kick off 7.30pm.
