Glos Northern Senior Div Two

Bibury 3 Leonard Stanley 1

BIBURY'S match at home to third-placed Leonard Stanley was the only game in the Glos Northern Senior League to survive the weather on Saturday – not even Stuart Pearce's scheduled debut for Longford against Smiths Athletic could go ahead thanks to a waterlogged pitch.

Nonetheless, the conditions at Bibury were very testing with strong winds and constant heavy rain throughout the 90 minutes.

Chances were few and far between in the first half, Bibury having the better opportunities.

Tom Montgomery crashed a shot against the crossbar and George Shutt fired one wide before Bibury did take the lead five minutes before the break.

Cutting in from the left flank, Ashley Rockley danced around three challenges before his shot took a deflection that left the keeper wrong-footed.

The second half started fairly evenly, Kanne Outram having an early shot for Bibury, which was saved, while Leonard Stanley saw a good chance clear the bar.

Bibury scored a second goal midway through the half when James Keylock raced on to a long pass downfield and slid the ball past the oncoming Stanley 'keeper.

The visitors should have pulled a goal back with a free header from a corner but it went well wide.

Outram then punished Stanley for that miss when grabbing Bibury's third goal with a great finish.

With five minutes remaining the visitors pulled a goal back.

A big win for leagues leaders Bibury thanks to a great all-round team performance.
