Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club

SATURDAY’S SW inter-counties school cross country championships held at Pittville Park, Cheltenham saw Cirencester AC junior Lauren Izon qualify to represent the South West in the U15s.

In Chippenham, second claim Luke Campbell won the local parkrun again despite the rain.

On Sunday a sodden Cirencester Park enabled the club to provide a very tough course for the Oxford Mail Cross Country League races.

Runners in all age groups were asked to negotiate steep slopes and rivers of mud but the hosting Cirencester teams put their training and local experience to good use.

As a result junior Luke Buck holds fifth position in the U13s and Freya Gregory sixth place in the U11s after four of five league fixtures and brothers Henry and Archie Sheffield both made exciting debut runs.

The ladies' A team, boosted by the return of both Holly Tugwell and Jane Wassell and ably supported by the league's first FV45 Sarah Gunn, proved fast enough to earn second place in Division One.

They were so strong that Jane Thomas found herself in an unfamiliar B team despite being only seconds behind.

Adrian Williams (third MV40 in the league overall) again led the men home in third place in Division One while Ional Iancu brought the B team home seventh in Division Three.
