The Gloucester County Girls Football League season ended with a 6-a-side tournament at The Goals Centre, Stoke Gifford, on 8th May.
The format was new to many of the teams with the ability to rebound the ball off the sides, the smaller goals and not being allowed to kick the ball above shoulder height.
Ashton Keynes U10 Girls went into the tournament with high hopes and cruised through the group stage beating 4 teams and drawing with 2, conceding just 3 goals and scoring 17.
They met Hardwicke Rangers in the semi-finals, the opening exchanges were tense but it wasn’t long before AK scored the first, and then a further 3 hit the back of the net.
Hardwicke got a consolation goal towards the end making it 4-1.
The opponents for the final were Dursley Blacks, they had beaten Cheltenham Spa in their semi-final.
Ashton Keynes were full of confidence and they used this to full advantage, taking the lead early.
They played with such intensity that by the final whistle 1 had become 5 and the final score was 5-0.
The tournament win ends what has been an impressive and hugely successful season for this group of girls who also won their Charity Shield and FA Cup competitions.
The tournament squad was (in the order they appear in the picture attached from left to right) Erin Hughes, Erin Hemsley, Ruby Brown, Emily Hillier, Neve Johnson, Jemima Lister, Skye Fitchett, Elizabeth Mills and Matilda Perks, their coach is Mike Logan (pictured on the far right)
