IT was heartbreak for Cirencester Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon as they were knocked out of the Gloucestershire FA Women's Trophy at the quarter-final stage following a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to AEK Boco Ladies.

Against a side competing for the title in the league above, Cirencester dug deep and bravely held out for 90 minutes to set up theΒ shootout, where Boco prevailed 3-1 to save their blushes and reach the semi-finals.

Cirencester almost produced a real upset in the dying moments of the cup tie but a shot came back off the post and the game stayed goalless.

Despite defeat, Cirencester earned plenty of credit for their performance against a side, essentially, two levels higher than them.Β
